About The Wine
Inside the bottle: If the “Les Trois Sources” bottling is the air sign in the bunch, this is the earth sign. This parcel, translated as “the higher places,” is the deep thinker and the most powerful and serious wine of the bunch. The high dose of Mourvedre (20%), cold winds and high elevation concentrate the savory notes of dark red fruits, pepper, animal, iodine, anise and evergreen wild herbs. Through the sheer power of the wine a symphony of purple and red flowers flower sing to you if you take the time to listen. Les Hauts-Lieux is a perfectly sculpted and deeply powerful, well-mannered beast.
Terroir: This single plot sits on the highest part of this north-facing hill, just below the famous Mont Redon plateau. Here you find sandy limestone soils covered with a good amount of the galets stones. This site is the last to be picked in JP's roster as it is the highest in elevation as well as having a good dose more of the late-ripening, Mouvedre. It is easy to sense the freshness of both the soil and colder winds that bring this wine back to planet earth and away from its potential to be overblown and monsterous.
