Inside the bottle: If I tried to describe this wine, it would take up nearly three pages of notes taken over three hours of tasting a wine that is always on the move. It is a seriously endowed wine in every direction but somehow manages to find tremendous balance. Along the journey, the 100-year-old Grenache consistently expresses exotic red and purple fruits, licorice, fresh provençal herbs of lavender and fresh, rich thyme. The sheer mass and weight of the wine is somehow always light on its feet. That is what makes this wine so impressive.
Terroir: This parcel is found in the Trois Source parcel closest to the road and furthest down the hill. These 100-year-old vines are made up of nearly 95% Grenache. The soil is a very fine sand with a good amount of calcium from the breakdown of limestone in the vineyards. Because it is the most warm site, it is the first of the cuvées to be picked which helps to express its high-toned and dense red fruit notes.
