Malat - 2013 Riesling, ‘Steinbuhel’
24 in stock
This Riesling comes from 35-year-old vines grown on a very thin layer of limestone-rich loess and acidic granolite bedrock. I have to say, the charm meter goes up a few notches with this wine, especially compared to its brethren in Michael Malat’s Riesling range.
Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel before the juice is racked into large 2,000-liter wood casks for the remainder of its élevage. The time spent in wood further rounds out this softly mineral vin de soif and brings its invitingly savory exotic green, yellow and white fruits front and center. It’s a lovely wine and would go nicely with a large range of foods, from salads all the way to darker white meats.
