Inside the Bottle: When you taste Beaujolais from producers like Alain, the lines start to blur between the Pinot Noir based red Burgundies to the north and Beaujolais, which sits on completely different soil types and exclusively uses the red grape Gamay – especially when he starts pulling magnums out from the 80’s and 90’s.
Straight out of the gates, your nose is surrounded by discrete and beautifully layered persian mulberry, middle-eastern spice, persimmon, sweet thyme, lavender, red rose and molten metal. The palate follows suit, adding fresh acidity and gritty, graphite and mineral finish. This is textbook, classic Beaujolais made with perfect craftsmanship and intention -there are no accidental genius in these bottles.
