The Story

The three Reinisch brothers took over their family domaine at the unexpected passing of their young father. Hannes, Christian and Michael work cohesively as a unit, with each knowing their role. Out of obligation, it was Hannes, the eldest son, who was thrust in to organize and manage the general direction of things at the estate. Since the boys took the helm, they have become one of Austria’s darlings in red wine production and are specifically known for their world-class Pinot Noir. Their region, the Termenregion, begs for this variety that was brought here by the same order of monks who established the vineyards of Burgundy. The Reinisch brothers also successfully cultivate two rare and charming white varieties, Zierflander and Rotgipfler, as well as one of the very best examples of the red, Saint Laurent.

Lay of the Land

Unlike other regions in Austria, Thermenregion has a strong tradition of planting their vineyards to a majority of red varieties – 65% red and 35% white. The name “Thermenregion” is taken from the thermal, sulphuric, hot springs that flow underground, contributing to the favorable growing conditions of Pinot Noir and Saint Laurent. In this land of Baden and Beethoven, the loamy soils dominate, as well as gravel and sand with a high content of fossilized snails, mussles and other marine deposits.
