Ingrid Groiss - 2015 Gruner Veltliner, ‘Schablau Reserve’

An intense, dense nose of crushed rocks, spice, tobacco, petrol, and raw anise lead the aromatic profile, followed by subtle notes of dried pineapple and baked apple. Macerated on its skins (no stems) for eight hours and aged sur lees for ten months in stainless steel, this is no doubt a powerful wine. The 50+ year-old vines grown on limestone-rich conglomerate soil further endow its structure, revealing forceful components on every structural element, from its acidity and palate weight to its waxy, soft tannin finish.
