David Duband - 2015 Nuits Saint Georges Rouge

Inside the bottle: This is one of my favorites in his line of village wines. Of course, it’s sometimes too easy just to go for Chambolle or Vosne Romanee because you kinda know what you are getting, but after awhile you need something a little more wild and spicy. The wine is another exotic beauty, much like the Morey village wine. It shows delicacy for the appellation, much of which could be credited to the dominant portion being from the north hill of the appellation, closer to Vosne-Romanee. It is spicy with red and subtle dark fruits, black earth, forest and underbrush. The texture is has a great balance of grip for this appellation, an appellation that can sometimes deliver very hard and dry tannins. These are mildly gritty but leave the palate refreshed instead of parched. It’s a delicious and agreeable young example of this appellation’s village wines.
Terroir: 80% of this wine comes from two vineyards, La Charmotte and Aux Saints-Juliens, both located on the Vosne side of the appellation and the other vineyard, Les Plateaux, is on the south hill facing east and slightly north.
