Ingrid Groiss - 2017 Gruner Veltliner, Wienviertel

Dried lemon and hazelnut jump straight out of this high-toned elixir, which is further enhanced by the gorgeous, subtle oak grove notes of chanterelle and porcini mushrooms, chestnut, and anise—just make sure the wine isn’t too cold or you’ll miss these beautiful nuances. The palate showcases a dense and forcefully mineral, waxy and fresh cream texture, electrically charged with savory nut, nutmeg and allspice, notes of toasted brown bread, and unsalted, cold butter. This is a fantastic entry-level wine with intense focus; perhaps not five dimensional, but close.
