GROWER OVERVIEW
Voted Italy’s “Best Sommelier” in 1998 at age 23, author of numerous Italian wine books, and protege of Etna’s oracle and renaissance man, Salvo Foti, Federico Graziani’s wines hit the same high marks of the world’s greats. Located on the north face of Etna, Fede’s Nerello Mascalese-dominant Etna Rossos are harvested from a mix of new and ancient plantations (with some pre-phylloxera, own-rooted plants) in Passopisciaro and Montelaguardia. His field blend white, Mareneve, is grown at a frosty 1200m altitude and stands alone as a singular expression on Etna.
VINEYARD DETAILS
Mareneve is harvested from 15-20-year-old Carricante (30%), Riesling (25%), Gewürztraminer (25%), Chenin Blanc (15%), and Grecanico (5%) on a northwest and east-facing, medium steep slopes between 900-1200m on volcanic bedrock with shallow sandy and rocky topsoil.
CELLAR NOTES
Mareneve is naturally fermented up to 23°C max. for 6 days in steel and aged 20 months in steel on the lees with a light filtration before bottling.
