Not every wine can be fully understood on its own, but Susanna Grassi’s wines are gorgeous and individual. Like the greatest albums of all time, her range of I Fabbri Chianti Classico wines complete one another; together, they are an unbeatable catalog. To understand the enormity of what happens at I Fabbri, you must know each track on her annual album: think The Dark Side of the Moon. You can taste one and love it, but to drink them together is to fully understand her work with vines that rise to the highest points in all of Chianti Classico. Remarkably, Susanna is the 14th generation of her family in Casole, dating back to the 1600s. The family made wine and worked as blacksmiths. Her great-grandfather Olinto was already bottling wine from the property in the 1920s. Susanna grew up believing she would take care of the farm, but life took her to study economics, live abroad and enter the fashion world. A commercial consulting job brought her back to Casole at the end of the 1990s, where she found the family property empty and sad, but still bewilderingly beautiful. In 2000, she created I Fabbri and started to put the estate back together. I Fabbri’s wines sing with deep emotion and a ceaselessly lifted spirit. They are a gift.
